There’s nothing like a nice, new series. A palette cleanser between chapters 407 and 408 of the poorly translated light novel you’re pirating. An amuse-bouche of words and ideas from a new author or an old favorite. Take a bite out of these new GameLit novels – released just this week.

Stray Beast Master by J.C. Nelson

From Amazon,

In a world where the Classless can only hope to survive and Adventurers have all the power, Kaden Birch traded the chance to change his life in order to save another’s. But when he’s given the opportunity to start work in Beast Control, Kaden find more than he’s ever hoped for. Friends, Skills, and the trail of a lost Class with the power to let Kaden make the new life he’s been waiting for.

The only things standing in his way? Adventurers. Poisonous snakes. Cosmic Horrors from beyond this universe, and even worse, city bureaucracy. For a Classless man on a Quest to become a BeastMaster, nothing is certain, except Taxes. Those are certain.

This book is a low arc progression fantasy with as much focus on building relationships as acquiring new skills and progressing in battle. It’s a blend of slice of life and adventure and probably something else I don’t know about. Will the MC be vastly powerful? Eventually. Is it soon? Not at all.

This Nelson’s first book on Amazon.

Baneslayer by Tim Paulson

From Amazon,

In a world of secrets, he who holds the answers holds the power.

Nathan Cheng, known professionally as Nil, is anything but ordinary. With his fourth consecutive game jam win in the bag, he has a lot of big ideas for his own studio, though he lacks the resources to make them real. Even if he did, the gaping hole in his heart from the untimely death of his sister has left him angry and bitter. If only he could have been there.

When he wakes up in an arcane world with a system that seems familiar, he’s given an ultimatum: defeat the dark king… or die. If he can succeed, he can return home on the day before his sister was murdered. The catch is, like every light warrior, he must begin at level one.

Only Nil’s knowledge of the system will allow him to advance fast enough to avoid being overwhelmed by the endless armies of the dark. It’s a good thing he has a perfect memory.

Mob Sorcery by K.D. Robertson

From Amazon,

In a city where magic is as common as air, Vince receives an offer he can’t refuse. The local wolffolk mafia long for their glory days and their alluring don, Alessia Lionetti, wants a powerful enforcer to bring them back. That’s Vince. This is his big break from his days as a hired thug.

Working for the mafia has a short life expectancy, though. Especially in a world where the masquerade shattered long ago. Demons run banks, birdfolk ferry people across town, and the police possess crack teams of sorcerers to keep the peace. Bad news for Vince and his dreams of mafia wealth.

Not to mention the corrupt mayor backing the mafia’s rivals, or that Vince’s usual employer doesn’t appreciate his moonlighting. Plus, the don’s sister is a wild one.

Vince might not become a made man, but his future with the mob will make him or break him.
